Ann was technically our great aunt, but to me and my siblings she was always Auntie Ann, a funny and whip-smart woman who always made sure there were mentos stashed in reach of greedy fingers, stocked up on Pirate cookies when she knew we were visiting, and would tolerate sleeping on the couch each Christmas so that there were enough beds for when we would descend upon her and Auntie Lynn. Her kindness and deep love of family is what I will remember the most: the way she would scrunch up her face in a smile that let you know she was in on the secret with you, how she would ooh and ahh over the smallest update in your life as if it was earth-shatteringly amazing, the absolute fervor she had for tennis that we kids could never understand.
I know that Ann is giving that secret smile down on us as she is greeted by Auntie Lynn, Uncle Bud and Nana (Patricia Burnham). And no doubt regaling them with a story in the way only she could do!
