Obituary of Jamie Lynne Simmons

Simmons, Jamie Lynne (February 10, 1943 ? March 23, 2010) Passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Daughter to James and Lois Gill of Belleville and daughter-in-law to Phillip and Thelma Simmons (all deceased), she was a devoted and loving wife to Steve Simmons of Port Hope; a loving mother to David Simmons and Kathryn Markham of Brisbane, Australia and James and Tracy Simmons of Omemee; a loving and doting grandmother to Paden and Marina Simmons of Omemee; a loving sister to Judy Galpin of Whitby (deceased), Jeff and Linda Gill of Ancaster, and Thom and Lorna Gill of Lexington, Virginia; a beloved sister-in-law to Gord and Martha Simmons of Port Hope; and a dearly loved aunt to many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Queen's University in 1964, she achieved both a teacher?s certificate and a degree in English and French, and she would go on to teach those two subjects with great success in the Hastings Board of Education, the Durham Board of Education, and the Peel Board of Education. After retirement, she was a very proud member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. A world traveller over the course of her life, the city she most loved to visit was Paris, France (with Las Vegas, Nevada a very close second). She was a treasured friend to a great many people, and she took much delight in the company of others. She will be very greatly missed. ?Out, out, brief candle!?
