Obituary of Douglas Malcolm Nevin
Nevin, Douglas Malcom 1929-2022
We sorrowfully announce the passing of Douglas Malcolm Nevin, who passed Tuesday May 3rd, 2022 at Ed's House Hospice. Son of John A. & Jessie I. Nevin, Doug was born in Ottawa in 1929 and went on to serve many social groups, including a time as the President of the Port Hope Lions Club. He was a common sight in the communities of Ottawa, Toronto, Cobden, Brockville, Montréal, Beachburg, Maxville and Port Hope, where he retired. Doug was a golfer and avid curler, coin collector, and a dedicated employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia for 38 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Wilma Ross, his sons John (late Cathy) and Peter (Christine), his grandchildren Alex (Valerie), Chris, and Ashley (Cosmo), and his brothers and sisters in law Alvin (late Mercy) Ross, Chuck (Betty) Ross, Harold (late Evelyn) Curry, Grant and Anne Waite, and several nieces and nephews; predeceased by his brother Donald and sister Elizabeth Borstmayer.
Doug did not suffer fools gladly, but was quick with a laugh and naturally cordial with many. He was something of a prankster, he often hid rubber snakes throughout the house much to his wife's dismay, and enjoyed firing a starter pistol off in the house without notice, often encouraging his grandchildren to do so on his behalf. Notoriously averse to vegetables, he long enjoyed a steak. Doug's charismatic, yet stubborn personality and unique quips will be missed by all who knew him.
"God has you in his keeping, we have you in our hearts."
A cemetery service will be held Tuesday at 2pm at the Columbarium at Port Hope Union Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made by cheque to Ed's House Hospice. www.allisonfuneralhome.com»(Do not delete this line. It does not print.
