Being out of the badminton community for a few years now, I am late finding out about Jolyon's passing. Sorry to hear about this. I interacted with Jolyon at many a badminton tournament over the years. My fondest memory of him is from one of our first meetings. Back in about 2010 or 2012, Jolyon was coaching the COBA team at the Ontario Winter Games. I was coaching the NOBA team. Our teams joined up at a restaurant together one evening. I distinctly remember how Jolyon stood up at the meal and publicly singled out every one of his team members and said something truly positive and encouraging about each one. I remember thinking to myself: I need to be more like that.

Jolyon was a great friend and badminton partner! Condolences to Megan, Kyle, Graeme and the entire Thompson family. I don't think his smile ever changed from when he cut me from the U of T varsity team 40 years ago, to when we won a World Masters doubles title together 10 years ago, to when he coached the COBA team just last month. I never understood how a person could truly get that much pleasure from eating gelato when we were in Italy, but he just did. Jolyon, you will be missed by everyone you ever touched.

Jolyon was by far one of my favorite people put into my life when I was at a place of loss. I was a troubled man with alcohol and law troubles and Jolyon saw past all of my destructive behaviors and was instrumental in planting the first few seeds of me seeking the help and change I needed to be the real me. He was not my probation officer as more he was a guiding light! My life is amazing today and you have a place in my success. I am into my 21st year free of Alcohol and many other positive life changes.Thank you for being the most amazing human being. You were meant to touch us all! PEACE. Joe Cormier

Jolyon meant so much to me. I worked for him at Scarborough Probation and Parole. I immediately joined his diversity committee, as Jolyon always promoted equity diversity and inclusion. He became my single biggest mentor in the public service and beyond. We shared a passion for tennis. We watched the pros together at rogers cup and davis cup over the years. He always lifted me up in my worst moments and always believed in me. I still can’t believe he is gone so soon. I loved him like an uncle. My deepest condolences, Sam Jean-Louis

I am very sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Jolyon. My condolences to Megan and the boys. I had the pleasure of interacting with Jolyon when he was working as a probation officer in Cobourg and also saw him from time to time at the Y. I "taught" Jolyon how to play squash and after our one and only match, Jolyon retired from the sport with an undefeated record. I will remember Jolyon for his integrity, compassion, athleticism, good humour and ever-present smile.

My deepest condolences Megan, Kyle and Graeme. It's hard to imagine Jolyon is no longer here. Jolyon and I worked together 11+ years as P&P officers in the small Cobourg suboffice. My first memory of Jolyon was a chat about badminton, in the stone wall basement tiny space that was our initial Vic Hall office. At the time I did not fully appreciate Jolyon's extensive involvement and success in the sport. I offered that we should play a game of tennis as I always kept 2 rackets in my car. Jolyon beamed and thought it was a great idea. While we continued chatting, Jolyon without any effort whatever, leapt to sit on our 5 foot high office counter. I could not believe my eyes. Immediately, I realized it was 'game, set, match' for Jolyon :). Years later I could not be more proud as my daughter Hannah was coached in badminton in Port Hope by Jolyon. I knew Hannah was being coached by the very best of the best.
In the later years our paths often crossed at the Cobourg office and we would have enjoyable conversations catching up and chatting.
Jolyon and I had many laughs: he always had a quick wit. Jolyon cared a great deal for his clients. He was intelligent, thoughtful, measured and very much a diplomat. Above all, Jolyon was immensely proud of his family putting them first and foremost, always.
I was very fortunate to work with Jolyon. He was a most excellent colleague and friend of years gone by.
Megan, I will not be able to make it to Jolyon's memorial service: I am not in Canada this month. I will keep you, Kyle, Graeme and Jolyon's brother Sean in my thoughts and prayers during this terribly sad time.
