I am sorry to hear of Tony Prower's passing. As a bass in the TCS choir I always enjoyed singinging "And Did Those Feet In Ancient Times" otherwise known as Jerusalem with Tony playing magnificintly in the loft at the organ. He was a kind man and always good to chat with when I returned to the school on my visits as an old boy.

I remember Mr Prower when he was my choirmaster at St Marks Church. Though I was a teenager, I still could recognize his dedication and commitment. Very good memories of a time long past. Condolences to his family.

Wow, Mr. Prower (Tony, Pussy Prower) lived to be 95! That is a great life. I hope the end was not too painful for his family. He and my father, Peter Hill, worked closely together at TCS for many years and they got along well as far as I can remember. They collectively ran a very inspired regular chapel service, almost like a theater. They collaborated on many school theatrical productions like Oliver and Camelot. I think my father and Tony got along quite well and artistically they came together in a very pragmatic way. There is something good to be said about people who know how to get shit done in a good way and Tony was one of those people. He was also my music teacher during my high school years and he gave me personal piano lessons when I was 12 and 13 years old. Not to be negative but I didn't really like classical music and gave up learning classical music (in favour of playing Billy Joel) under Tony's tutelage. But he was very cool about it. I did continue to study music under him playing trumpet for many years. I can still remember the "band" sessions in the basement of the chapel with Tony trying to get a group of 15 or so terrible musicians to play something decent in time. That took a lot of patience and Tony kept going like a champion. I also have to say that he always seemed to be in a decent good mood. Rest in peace Tony!

Deepest condolences to Tony’s family and friends. Though not a musical boy by any stretch of the imagination, I did play an almost respectable trumpet as a teenager. As a result, I fell under Tony’s tutelage in the concert band, and to a lesser degree, in the cadet band. He was a great teacher and kind as well (at that time, not a necessary virtue in a TCS Master). He took his job very seriously, it seemed to me. At one point, he had his stopwatch out while the cadet band was drilling, and told me that our cadence was a bit short of the 120 per minute needed. Being 17, I thought,”Who cares? 112 seems fine to me”. Of course, he was right, and I was happy to be able to tell him so at our 50th reunion a few years ago.

My heartfelt condolences to Tony's family. I have fond memories of playing French Horn and singing in the choir (not at the same time!) under his direction. I will always picture him at the organ during chapel services, filling the space with those wonderful Anglican hymns.

Tony came as assistant to Edmund Cohu towards the end of my time at TCS. We did not provide the easiest of starts to his teaching career, but he persevered with patience and kindness, and these became the foundations of his long, successful tenure at the school. Thank you, Tony, and blessings to your immediate family, and the whole school family, who grieve your death and give thanks for your life.

Dear Prower Family
It is indeed a sad loss to be without Tony and his musical talents.I particularly remember the rehearsals for the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in the Chapel basement and his corrections of our pronunciation...let us carefully "dread the measure" and of course all the other extravagannzas he got us through.....back in the day of just piano.
His choir work was incredible and I still have the record and love to listen to it every once in a while. He gifted my mother a copy of one of his compositions and she treasured it and I have it still tucked safely away.
He was a respected teacher and valued friend and in integral part of The School on the Hill for many years. He will be dearly missed by more people than you can imagine.

Condolences to family on the passing of Tony Prower. I did a number of musical ventures with him back in my TCS days....he recruited me for my trumpet skills and utilized me in some fun music projects. One of them was Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat as I recall. I'll always remember him as a very energetic man who did a lot and was fun to work with....and he had a passion for music.

I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the family of Tony Prower. I was a member of his choir when he was choirmaster and music teacher at the School and also served as head choir boy under his tutelage. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was incredibly kind to his choristers. On occasion, we would be invited to his home for dinner and to play croquet on the lawn. With a total unruly bunch of kids, as we were, he always dealt with us with his characteristic good nature. Much of what I learned about classical music was under his direction. He will be remembered and missed greatly. Fen Hampson
