It caught me by surprise really. I read about the death of John Eyman. I knew him only as a kid, when we went to George Hamilton Public School in Welcome. Ontario. Reading about his death caught swiftly; sharply at my throat and I felt a sinking sadness.
We never knew each other past grade school . I left my hometown of Port Hope Ontario over 45 years ago. I wouldn’t have known him on sight.
But, John Eyman , the young singer, has stayed ; caught in a moment in time; locked in my memory.
We must have been in grade 3 or 4 maybe.
.John was in a grade ahead of me, I think. .
We both were in the staging of Oklahoma ; the staging of which was on the proscenium in the school gym.
I was too young to really understand what was happening or why we were doing a little theatre performance of Oklahoma. John was the lead singer.
John was tall in his cowboy hat and a group of girls all decked out in our varied coloured crepe paper skirt costumes were all aligned on the stage.
My crepe paper skirt was blue.
On opening night which was likely the only night. John sang out “ Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day … I thought he was wonderful . He stood tall, chest out and belted out
that song ;impassioned and confident.
This has stayed with me all these years ; a jolly good memory.
Whenever someone says to me, ‘what a beautiful morning’ or 'what a beautiful day’ , that moment on stage at the George Hamilton Public School has stayed with me , locked in time , the memory of John singing that song so mightily , wonderfully, is always and forever how I hear that greeting.
Saddened to hear of his passing. Michele Kazakos. New Brunswick.

To the Eyman family:
John was a wonderful man with an infectious laugh I will never forget. He was a caring father and a fun loving friend.
He had a mischievous side as well. I recall being shocked and appalled when he taught my young son that he could pinch the very end of a lit firecracker between his fingers with his arm extended and let it explode without injury. Funny in hindsight but at the time, not so much, lol.
John was not a small man by any means. So imagine hearing someone use the word graceful to describe him. I’ve had the pleasure of watching him perform the most graceful swan dives from the cliffs at Anstruther Lake near Apsley, Ontario and Hawksbill at Lake James, North Carolina during a visit here with his family.
I have always considered John a friend, I loved him and he will be missed. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Nothing but good times with John.
One of my fondest memories is going to Sanair Quebec in a rented motor home.
It was the last NHRA event in Canada, and what a time we had.

It was an honor to know John through Michelle. We had many great memories at the family home. Many nights at the Ganny dancing, and singing the night away. Always knew the front door was open if we were in the area to come and visit. You always knew what to say, you were the life of the party no matter where you went, everyone knew you and always had kind words to say. May we cherish the moments we spent together. To Michelle and family we are thinking of you during this hard time. We love you! From your friends Alli, CJ, and the kids. All the way from Alberta
