Jim was a gentleman and a good friend to my late husband Bill Ruttle.
When he addressed the haggis, he was a joy to hear.
Janis' I am so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely Fran Varden Ruttle

Uncle Jim had a large impact on all those that knew him.
He was the funny uncle, lively. A pipe band leader who loved his Scot’s Heritage. When we were young we took the mickey out of each other. We did not see Uncle Jim often but the times were significant and life changing. As a young boy, his kindness and patience and making a young boy feel special and again, later,
When life seemed a dark tunnel, the inspiration of over coming obstacles, helped people enormously. He had a dramatic impact. Condolences to all for your loss.

Sending my sincere condolences to Janis and all your family. I too, have fond memories of Jimmy from our shared PH Pipe Band days! As a boy, I recall Jimmy as the man that threw a mass like no other! We had such a fun time in Biloxi, Mississippi in '77. A true statesman for our community, and fondly remembered by so many! RIP auld friend.,

Jimmy, I have such joyful memories of you in the early days of our shared pipe band lives, the very first being the Peterborough Scottish Festival at Little Lake.
Our days in the Port Hope Pipe Band, your masterful recitation of the Address to a Haggis, the day you married my dear friend, Janis, and visits to the farm - these memories I will keep in my heart.

I always enjoyed speaking with Jimmy about all we had in common: piping, Masonry, July parades. He was always jovial and good natured. In the band, he was an unsurpassed bass drummer. My sincere condolences to Janis and their family, I’ll miss Jimmy.

I will never forget the first time I met “The Jimmy”. Especially when he asked my permission to marry my Mom. He invited me to join him for a “beer” and, although a few words were lost in translation, I could tell that he really cared for her. Jim was always earnest and welcoming and warm. This was very true the first time I brought Savannah to meet the family. She was shy, but Jim welcomed her from the head of the table at Thanksgiving dinner. When he married my mother, our family grew in number and in love. We will always cherish the time we had with him and hold his memory close to our hearts. All our love, Alex and Savannah
