Obituary of Mary Joyce Sherry

Sherry, Mary Joyce (Bristow) in her 95th year, passed away at Port Hope
Extendicare on Friday May 31, 2024. Loving wife of the late Gordon Sherry (1990) A wonderful caring Mother to Lynda Newton (Craig), Bill Sherry (Teresa) and Jackie Sherry. Devoted Grandmother to the Late Jeremy Reesor, Krista Reesor, Ashley Newton, Adam Newton. Nickolas Sherry, Samantha Macaulay, Great Grandmother to Keegan Desrochers, Mason Sherry, Griffin Macaulay and Harper Newton. Mary was born the oldest and longest surviving child to Nyle Bristow and Eulah Bristow (Hancock). Mary deeply loved her siblings Pat Palmer, Clifford Bristow and Marg Williams who all predeceased her. Mary adored her nieces and nephews Bonnie Palmer, Barb Davidson, Bob Palmer, Donna Palmer- Horne, Sheri Mahon-Fournier, Jeff Bristow, Wayne Williams, Ann Talbot and Angie Howreluk and Laurel Maddock. Mary worked as an Operator at Bell Canada for 25 years and retired at age 54
spending more time with Gord when he was sick while also volunteering her time with Meals on Wheels. Mary loved the outdoor life with many years spent at their cottage in Cordova and winter in Dunedin, Florida. She would spend many days at the cottage making quilts for all her family, baking, bird watching, having family and friends to visit. She enjoyed dancing, going to Tim Hortons and spending time with her family.
After she sold the cottage, she spent time at her Cabin at Shelter Valley and trailer at Golden Beach. She loved that outdoor life and passed her passions to her children and Grandchildren. Many thanks to all the team at Port Hope Extendicare where she was well taken care of for close to 7 years.
There will be a Private Graveside Service Welcome Cemetery and A Celebration of Life will be held at the Port Hope Lions Centre on 29 Thomas Street, on Wednesday June 5, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please come celebrate Mary’s Life any time during those hours.
