Obituary of Ian Corrie

ARTHUR  IAN CORRIE

August 24, 1932 – January 18, 2025

Ian passed away peacefully with his daughter Susan at his side and surrounded by love and kindness from the team of dedicated professionals and volunteers at Ed’s House Hospice in Cobourg, Ontario.  He was treated there with respect and dignity.  And, in return, Ian was always ready to give out hugs, kisses and to hold a hand in gratitude.  He was 92 years of age when he passed.

Born in Rangoon, Burma, Ian was the eldest son of Louis Corrie and Dorothy “Dolly” Hearsey.  His family was separated during WWII and Ian and his mother and siblings made their new home in Perth, Western Australia.  In 1954, he left Australia to travel the world and met his one true love, Audrey (Parsons) Corrie while visiting Italy.  They settled in Beloeil, Quebec, where they married and had a daughter.  They lived in Beloeil until Audrey passed away in 1975 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Ian worked with Marsh & McLennan Insurance for many years.  With determination and dedication, Ian rose through the ranks from an underwriter of policies to VP and served clients from their offices in Montreal, Miami, Edmonton and Toronto.

Ian loved to travel and made regular visits to his family in Australia.  He would be gone for months at a time, usually stopping off in Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok and Hong Kong along the way.

He retired to Oakville, Ontario, until a stroke and resulting Aphasia altered his life.  Ian now required additional support and could no longer live independently.  He spent five years living with Susan, her partner Craig Harding and their Golden Doodle J.  Craving some independence, Ian chose to live at Regency Retirement Home in Port Hope where he made many friends over the course of five years.

Ian is survived by: his daughter Susan Corrie and her partner Craig Harding, granddaughters Jennifer Stenson and Andrea Stenson (Luke Rossborough) and great grandchildren Ethan Stenson and Phoenix Rossborough.

Ian was predeceased by his sister Dorothy, her husband John Prior and their brother Christopher Corrie.  He leaves behind his Australian Corrie family:  sisters Moira, Laura, Elvera , brothers Bruce and Danny and their Mother Astrid (Loo) Corrie.  Nephews Mark Bradshaw and Wayne Corrie and niece Tracey Bradshaw in Sweden.  Cousin Jeannie Thompson.

A Celebration of Life will take place on August 24, 2025 at our home in Colborne, Ontario.
