Obituary of Frederick Howard Bud")" Gimblett
Frederick Howard (?Bud?) Gimblett (1931-2010) Went into the arms of the Lord, 16 August 2010, after a year-long battle with glioblastoma (brain tumour). Bud has been a loving husband to Carmen for 57 years, and a loving and supportive father to his sons Richard (Muriel) and Michael (Susan). He will be missed by grandchildren Marley (Kris), Tyson, Jesse, Meaghan and Beth, whom he enjoyed spending time watching grow up. He is also survived by his sister Simone Lesley (Philip), sister-in-law Geraldine Hamelin-Lemieux (Larry, pre-deceased, a close air force friend), and brothers-in-law Marc (deceased, Leona) and Jean (Gisele) Hamelin. Born in Oshawa, Bud served in the RCAF across Canada and overseas 1950-65 (postings included Centralia, Ottawa, Baden-Soelingen, Trenton and Goose Bay), and returned to Oshawa to work at General Motors (EDS) until retirement in 1995. Bud was passionate about everything to do with flying, and took real delight in being a part-time instructor at the Oshawa Flying Club and occasional instructor with the 151 ?Chadburn? Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets. As a family, we are extremely grateful to Dr A. Tesluk (general practitioner) for her successful initial diagnosis and Dr D. Moorsom and the Palliative Care team at the Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH, in Cobourg) for making Bud comfortable in his final days. We also thank Drs F. Pirouzmand, J. Perry and A. Sahgal and their teams at the Odette Cancer Centre (Sunnybrook Toronto) for allowing us to have this past year with Bud. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Therese Roman Catholic Church in Courtice, Sunnybrook Foundation - Odette Cancer Centre (Brain Tumour Research), or the Palliative Care Unit at NHH. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Th?r?se Church, 3800 Courtice Road North on Thursday 19 August at 11:00, with visitation and prayers one hour prior and luncheon following. www.allisonfuneralhome.com
