I met John at work, he would always come in humming a tune, he was such a pleasant man, we had many conversations about his life. He would have his scarf around his neck, I could spot him a mile away. He will be deeply missed by us all at The But N Ben

We were very honoured to have known John and Mattie
John was a wonderful person. Always wanting to give back.
We worked with John when we planned a fundraiser to help those who had been affected by the tsunami that hit many during 2005.
John had a wonderful sense of humor and of course always wore his scarf.

Only met John in 2019 at Celtic convention in Vegas. I’d heard all about him and when I met him it was an honor. He was a lovely man and we had a good talk about Celtic past and present. My wife Gwen and I had a few laughs with him at the westgate hotel. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. YNWA RIP JOHHNY BHOY

I had the pleasure and honour to sit with him in the Durham Celtic club at the games. It always amazed me how he could remember everyone's name as I'm hopeless with names. I know he missed his dear departed wife Mattie whom he is now reunited with. He would video message me to have a wee natter as to how I was feeling and to keep me up to date with his own condition. You'll be greatly missed by everyone. Rest In Peace John " the scarf " Lennon.

John was a dear friend, I’m gonna miss his presence in the Durham Celtic Club, we always announced (tongue in cheek) at all the games that “ John the beggar “ was collecting for this and that, he helped collect for so many charities I couldn’t name them all, we will continue to donate in his name.
May you Rest In Peace John with Mattie by your side,
Good Bless ….

What a man, always smiling and happy to chat away. It won't be the same at the Westgate when John isn't sitting waiting to hand out mass tickets. The mass the year was extra special with John receiving his blessing. He definitely will never be forgotten or walk alone. RIP John you were a pleasure to know my friend..

I would also like to add that John was the driving force behind getting the Jock Stein tournament up and running, he personally went to Toronto, St Catherines, Bramalea and Durham clubs to get them involved. It ran very successfully for 16 years raising thousands of dollar's for local charities. The tournament has just started back up again.
None of this would have happened without the drive that "The Scarf" put into this vision he had.
Hail Hail John, You'll never walk alone.
